The field behind the most rejections, checked before it is saved
A mistyped tax ID doesn't fail when it's saved: it fails weeks later, when the authority rejects the invoice or payment onboarding stalls. Cord checks it on the spot with each country's rules and tells you which field is wrong, using its local name.
What is validated
- Mexico: RFC with its date and check digit; the SAT's generic RFCs are accepted.
- Spain: NIF, NIE and CIF with their control letter or digit.
- United States: EIN with a prefix the IRS has assigned, since the EIN has no check digit.
- France: SIREN and SIRET with their check digit, and the VAT number, whose key is computed from the SIREN.
- Germany: USt-IdNr. with its check digit; the Steuernummer by its format, because each state uses its own.
- United Kingdom: VAT number with HMRC's check, UTR and Companies House number.
- Canada: Business Number with its check digit and, if entered, its program account (RT for GST/HST).
- Brazil: CNPJ, including the alphanumeric one, and CPF with their check digits.
- Argentina, Chile and Peru: CUIT, RUT and RUC with their check digit.
- Colombia: NIT, with its check digit when entered after a hyphen.
Where it applies
Your organization's details, each customer profile, CSV import, the API, the MCP server, AI-assisted setup, a customer created from a quote, payment onboarding and the Cord Elements tax form. The browser validates as you type and the server validates again with the same code.
How it works
You enter the tax ID in Settings, on the customer profile, in a CSV or through the API.
Cord normalizes it and checks its format and check digit with the country's rules.
If it doesn't match, it tells you which field to review with a valid example; if it does, it saves it normalized.
Availability and scope
All 12 Cord markets, on every surface where a tax ID is entered, with a single validator shared by the app, the API and Cord Elements.
Clear limits
It validates format and check digit; it doesn't query each authority's registry, so it doesn't confirm the ID is active. What can't be proven wrong isn't blocked: a false rejection would leave a business unable to invoice or collect.
