Two taxes on one line, without throwing off the total
A sale in Montreal carries 5% GST and 9.975% QST; in Vancouver, GST and 7% PST. Entering them as two separate rates meant the line only charged one. Cord stores one combined rate per line, computes it with the same engine as every other country, and splits it into its taxes when it's shown.
What's included
- Rates by province: when you pick your business's province, the catalog is seeded with that province's combined rate as the default, plus GST alone and the HST of the harmonized provinces for selling into them. These are the CRA's rates in effect since April 1, 2025.
- An exact breakdown: federal GST is computed on the base and the provincial tax takes the rest, so the sum is exactly what was charged.
- The right name: QST in Quebec, RST in Manitoba and PST elsewhere; in French, TPS, TVQ and TVH.
- On every surface: the PDF, the quote and invoice links, printouts, detail views and the three editors show each tax separately.
- Your QST number is printed next to your GST/HST number.
- Older documents stay safe: a standalone provincial rate saved earlier is read as the combined rate, so an old draft or recurrence never charges GST alone.
How it works
Pick your business's province in Settings and the catalog is seeded with its rates.
On each line you choose the combined rate, GST alone or the HST of the customer's province.
Cord computes one rate per line and shows GST and the provincial tax separately on every document.
Availability and scope
Quotes and invoices for businesses in Canada, with a catalog seeded by province and the breakdown on every document.
Clear limits
Cord computes with the rates you choose per line; it doesn't determine the place of supply of each sale on its own. Sales tax by customer address is a United States capability.
