Receive international payments

Selling to clients abroad is native to Cord, whichever of Cord’s 12 countries your business is in.

Payments and currencies

Create the quote or invoice in the currency that suits the client: those of Cord’s 12 countries plus JPY, CNY, CHF and AUD. When the client clicks Pay, Cord offers the methods your account supports for that currency:

  • Card through Cord Payments (Mexico, United States, Canada, Spain, United Kingdom, Germany and France), in the selling currency if your payments account supports it.
  • Bank transfer with a reference in your country’s currency (EUR in Spain, Germany and France; GBP in the United Kingdom; USD in the United States), on the invoice link and on the quote’s payment page, if you turned it on. In the United States only ACH or domestic wire is accepted: a client abroad cannot pay by international wire. In Mexico, SPEI collects in MXN only.
  • Bank debit on the invoice and the portal, if you turned it on: SEPA (EUR), ACH (USD), Bacs (GBP) or pre-authorized debit (CAD), each only in its currency and with a bank account in its area.
  • Mercado Pago (Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Chile and Peru), with the methods Mercado Pago has on your account.

Bank transfer with a reference and bank debit are new and may not be enabled on your account yet. If you don’t see them, write to us.

Availability and payout currency depend on your payments account configuration. If your bank settles in another currency, the payment network may apply conversion and cross-border fees.

How the sale is invoiced

The tax treatment depends on where your business is, not on the client’s country. Pick the client’s country on their profile and Cord applies the treatment that fits:

  • Mexico: the CFDI is issued to a foreign resident (RFC XEXX010101000, their country, use S01 and their tax ID). On the profile you only choose their Country and enter their home-country tax number, not an RFC; Cord sets the rest. A 0% item is declared exempt: Cord does not issue taxable 0% VAT yet, which is the rate that usually applies to the export of services; in that case, confirm it with your accountant and issue that CFDI outside Cord for now.
  • Spain, Germany and France: to a business client elsewhere in the EU with a VAT number, reverse charge with its notice; outside the EU, export without VAT. In Spain, with your electronic certificate the invoice is registered through Verifactu (in beta); without it, Cord issues pro formas.
  • Other countries: the commercial invoice carries the rate you choose on each line, with your country’s tax vocabulary.
