Get paid with Mercado Pago

With Mercado Pago, your client pays from the same quote link and the money lands in your Mercado Pago account. The money never goes through Cord.

Which countries it applies to

  • Mexico: you can use Cord Payments and Mercado Pago. Cord Payments is the main rail: your client sees it first, and Mercado Pago stays as a second option on the same payment page.
  • Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, and Peru: Cord Payments is not available yet, so Mercado Pago is the way to collect online.
  • Other Cord countries: Mercado Pago is not offered.

In all of those countries you collect with your own local Mercado Pago account and with the methods Mercado Pago offers there.

Connect it

  1. Go to Settings › Payments › Payment methods. You need the Payment settings permission. In Colombia, Argentina, Chile, and Peru, Settings › Payments › Account brings you here with the Connect Mercado Pago button.
  2. Under Other processors, on the Mercado Pago row, click Connect Mercado Pago. It takes you to Mercado Pago.
  3. Sign in with the account that will receive the money and authorize Cord.
  4. You return to Payment methods and the row says Connected. Mercado Pago is added to the Your client will see line.

It is best to use a business account in your company’s name: it is the seller your client sees and the one that receives each payment.

Cord stores that access encrypted and renews it on its own. It only uses it to open the payment for your quotes and read whether it was paid. If Mercado Pago ever stops accepting it, for example because you removed the authorization from your account, the row asks you to connect again and, in the meantime, your clients do not see the Mercado Pago option.

What your client sees

They open the quote or invoice link and click pay:

  • If Mercado Pago is your only online payment method, they see a blue Pay with Mercado Pago button with the Mercado Pago logo.
  • If you also have Cord Payments, they first see the Cord Payments form and, below it, the Pay with Mercado Pago button.

Clicking it opens Mercado Pago’s checkout, where they pay with the methods Mercado Pago offers in their country. Once the payment is approved, they return to your link.

The breakdown is the same as in Cord: if the quote has a deposit and balance, or installments, each part is collected separately, and the quote is marked paid once nothing is pending.

Refunds

You refund an invoice payment from Cord: on the invoice detail page, the Refund button next to the payment, fully or partially. The money leaves your Mercado Pago account, just as it came in (see Issue refunds). You refund a quote payment from your Mercado Pago account. In both cases Cord reads the refund: once Mercado Pago confirms the money went out, it lowers the paid amount, reopens the balance, and records it in the history. A refund still in process does not change the balance.

When it is marked paid

Mercado Pago notifies Cord as soon as there is a payment. Cord checks the notice’s signature and reads the payment in Mercado Pago before treating anything as done: it never trusts the notice alone.

  • Only an approved payment marks the quote as paid.
  • A payment that stays pending, such as cash, is marked paid when Mercado Pago approves it.
  • Mercado Pago resends its notices by design, and a repeated notice does not charge twice.
  • If the same charge is paid through Cord Payments and Mercado Pago, Cord notes it in the quote history so you can decide whether to refund one.

What it does not do yet

  • Recurring retainers: not offered, because a retainer needs the Cord Payments subscription.
  • Scheduled charges: Mercado Pago charges when your client opens the link; it does not store their card to charge later.

Test it before charging for real

Create a quote for a small amount and open it in another browser, without a session. Pay with a card that is not from your own Mercado Pago account, because Mercado Pago does not let you pay yourself. Confirm the quote is marked paid on its own, then refund the payment from Mercado Pago.

Disconnect

From Settings › Payments › Payment methods, with Disconnect on the Mercado Pago row. Open payments can no longer be paid with Mercado Pago; paid ones keep their history.
