Connect Gmail

Cord and Gmail connect in two ways, and you can use one or both:

  • Send from your Gmail. The quotes, invoices and payment reminders Cord sends to your clients go out from your address: they stay in your Sent folder and the client’s reply reaches you.
  • The Cord add-on for Gmail. A panel inside Gmail that tells you whether the sender is already your client, shows the thread’s quote live and builds quotes with AI from the order in the email.

Send from your Gmail

  1. Go to Settings › Integrations › Gmail. You need the Settings permission.
  2. Click Connect Gmail and authorize with your Google account. If Google shows checkboxes, keep send email checked: without it the connection is not completed.
  3. When you come back, the card shows which address emails go out from. Send a quote as usual and it will appear in your Sent folder.

Cord only asks permission to send. It cannot read your inbox or your emails.

If Gmail rejects a send — for example, because you changed your password or removed access — the email goes out from Cord so your client still gets it, and the card asks you to reconnect. Cord’s internal notifications (to you and your team) always go out from Cord.

The add-on inside Gmail

Open an email and click the Cord icon in Gmail’s right panel. The first time it asks you to Connect with Cord: you authorize on the Cord screen and you are done, without copying any key.

On an open email, the panel shows:

  • Whether the sender is already your client, with their latest quotes.
  • The thread’s quote, if the email carries its number (for example, your client’s reply to a quote): status, amount and the last thing that happened to it. From there you reply in the same thread with it or resend it through Cord.
  • Quote with AI: Cord reads the order in the email, matches it to your products and shows the proposed lines. You review them and it is created as a draft for you to finish in Cord.

While you write an email, the Cord icon in the compose toolbar inserts one of the recipient’s quotes as a card, with its amount and a button to view it. If you do not see the icon, it is in that toolbar’s three-dot menu.

What Cord reads from your Google account

  • Sending: only the permission to send and your email address.
  • The add-on: only the email you have open, and from it the sender, the subject and a quote number. The email text reaches Cord only when you click Quote with AI. It never reads your full inbox.

Cord does not sell this data or use it for advertising. You can remove access anytime from Settings › Integrations › Gmail (Stop sending from Gmail or Disconnect the add-on), from the Developers Workbench’s API keys tab, where each connected add-on shows as Authorized connection, or from your Google account’s security settings.

Common issues

  • “The permission to send email is missing”: you unchecked the send box when authorizing. Reconnect and keep it checked.
  • The add-on says authorization is required: open the Cord icon and accept every permission Google asks for.
  • “Your plan already used its AI quotes this month”: quoting with AI uses your plan’s AI quotes. Create a blank quote or upgrade your plan.
