Slack
Your team hears in its channel when a client opens, approves or pays, without opening Cord.
How it works
Cord posts to Slack through an Incoming Webhook: an address Slack generates for a specific channel. With Add to Slack you pick the channel in Slack and Cord receives that address on its own. Alerts and workflow messages go only to that channel.
When you authorize, Slack shows you the permissions the Cord app asks for: post to the channel you picked, see and complete Cord links pasted in your workspace (for the preview), receive the /cord command, and read the name and email of whoever clicks an approval button. None of them lets Cord read your messages.
There are two ways to get messages, and you can use both:
| Notification alerts | Workflow action | |
|---|---|---|
| What it posts | A standard message per quote event. | The text you write, with event data. |
| When | On the events you check in Settings › Notifications. | On any of the 49 event triggers or the scheduled trigger, with conditions and waits. |
| Where to set it up | Settings › Notifications | Workflows |
Requirements
| Where | What you need |
|---|---|
| Cord | The Settings permission. Any plan. |
| Slack | Being able to install apps in your workspace. If your workspace restricts installs, a Slack admin will need to approve the Cord app. |
| Approval buttons | Internal approvals, which come with the Scale plan or higher, and the person clicking the button must use the same email in Slack as in Cord and have the Approvals permission. |
1. Connect your channel
- Go to Settings › Integrations and tap Slack.
- Click Add to Slack. Slack opens: pick the channel for the alerts and click Allow.
- When you come back, the card says Connected to #your-channel. Click Send test: a message about a test quote “COT-PRUEBA” should appear in the channel.
Slack adds an app called Cord to your workspace; it is the one that signs the messages. If your workspace restricts app installs, a Slack admin will need to approve it.
Alternative: your own webhook
If you prefer messages to show your own Slack app’s name and icon, open Use your own webhook on the same card:
- In api.slack.com/apps create an app from scratch, open Incoming Webhooks, turn them on and click Add New Webhook to Workspace to pick the channel.
- Copy the URL (it starts with
https://hooks.slack.com/services/), paste it in Cord and click Save. - Click Send test. The test uses the saved URL, not the one typed in the field.
2. Turn on the alerts
Connecting Slack does not turn on any alert by itself. Go to Settings › Notifications and check the Slack column for the events you want:
| Event | When it alerts |
|---|---|
| Your client viewed the quote | When the client opens the public link. |
| Quote approved | The client accepted the proposal. |
| Quote rejected | The client rejected it. |
| Payment received | The online payment was recorded. |
| Quote about to expire | 3 days before the validity date. |
| Overdue payment | A receivable passed its due date. |
Someone joined the team is email only; it has no Slack option.
What each alert contains
Each notification alert is a short message with:
- The quote number and what happened (viewed, approved, rejected, paid, about to expire, overdue).
- The client and the total with its currency.
- A link that opens the quote in Cord.
Notification alerts are about quotes: an event without a quote number is not posted to Slack. Alerts are written in your account’s language (Spanish or English, as set in Settings › General).
Previews, the /cord command and approvals
This feature is new and may not be enabled on your account yet. If you do not see it, write to us.
With Add to Slack, the Cord app also does this in your workspace:
- Link previews. A public quote link pasted in Slack opens as a card with the quote number, client, status, total and an Open in Cord button. It only happens with quotes from your own organization.
- The
/cordcommand. Type/cordand a quote number or a client name, for example/cord COT-0152. Only you see the answer, with up to 5 quotes. - Approval buttons. When a quote requests internal approval, it reaches the channel with Approve, Reject and Open in Cord buttons. The buttons only work if your Slack account uses the same email as your Cord account and you have the Approvals permission; otherwise Slack tells you to decide from Cord. Internal approvals require the Scale plan or higher.
If you connected Slack before these existed, the card asks you to reconnect: click Change channel and authorize again. They are not available with your own webhook.
Custom messages with workflows
With the Send a Slack message action in Cord Workflows you write the message, with event data, and decide when it goes out. Examples:
- When a deposit arrives: “
{{cliente}}paid the deposit for{{folio}}:{{monto}}. Balance:{{saldo_pendiente}}.” - When a dispute is opened: “Dispute on
{{folio}}for{{monto}}. Respond before{{fecha_limite}}.” - When a large sale is approved, only if the total passes a certain amount.
This action posts to the same channel and works even if notification alerts are off.
What flows and in which direction
| Direction | What flows | When |
|---|---|---|
| From Cord to Slack | The alerts you check in Notifications: quote number, what happened, client, total with its currency and the View quote link. | When the event happens. |
| From Cord to Slack | The text you write in a workflow’s Send a Slack message action. | When the workflow runs. |
| From Cord to Slack | The preview card for a quote link from your organization, and the /cord reply, which only the person who typed the command sees. |
When someone pastes the link or uses the command. |
| From Slack to Cord | The decision from the Approve or Reject buttons on an internal approval request. | When someone with permission clicks the button. |
| From Slack to Cord | Nothing else. Cord does not read the messages in your channels. | — |
Limits
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Channels per organization | One at a time, the one you picked when connecting |
| Messages from workflows | 120 per hour per organization |
| Length of a workflow message | 1,000 characters |
/cord results |
Up to 5 quotes |
| Link previews | Only quotes from your own organization |
| Notifications alerts | Only quote events with a quote number |
Change channel or disconnect
- Change channel: click Change channel on the card and pick another one in Slack. With your own webhook, create another one in Slack and paste the new URL.
- Disconnect: click Disconnect on the card (with your own webhook, clear the URL and save). Cord stops posting and the status goes back to Not connected. Workflows with the Slack action will start failing with a message asking you to connect Slack.
- Revoke from Slack: if you delete the webhook or the app in Slack, the URL stops working immediately, even if it is still saved in Cord.
Cord can post to one channel at a time. For alerts in several channels, one option is Make with Cord webhooks.
Problems
| Message | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The URL must be from hooks.slack.com | You pasted another URL, such as the channel or app URL. | Copy the Incoming Webhook URL, the one starting with https://hooks.slack.com/. |
| There is no Slack webhook connected. Paste the URL and save first. | You clicked Send test without saving. | Click Save, then test. |
| Slack did not accept the message. Check the webhook URL. | Slack rejected the message: the webhook was deleted, the app removed or the URL is incomplete. | Create a new webhook and paste the full URL. |
| Could not send | Network error while testing. | Try again. |
| The test arrives but alerts do not | The events do not have Slack checked. | Check Settings › Notifications. |
Treat the webhook URL like a password: anyone who has it can post to your channel. If you think it leaked, delete it in Slack and create a new one.
