Switch between bank transfer and card

Choose how to pay

The quote link offers methods enabled by the business. Card and automatic bank transfer require an enabled payment account. The invoice link offers card; on MXN invoices of businesses in Mexico with SPEI turned on, also SPEI to that invoice’s own CLABE; for businesses in Spain, Germany, France, the United Kingdom and the United States that turned it on, bank transfer with a reference in EUR, GBP or USD; and, if the business turned it on, bank direct debit (SEPA in EUR, ACH in USD, Bacs in GBP or pre-authorized debit in CAD). See Bank debit.

Card

The customer reviews the amount and completes the payment fields. Their bank may request additional verification. The payment is reflected when confirmation arrives; closing the payment screen or returning to the link is not proof of payment.

SPEI

Automatic SPEI is available for MXN payments for eligible businesses in Mexico, on the quote link and on the invoice link. Instructions show the CLABE, bank, reference and remaining amount. Use the current instructions for that payment, not a saved screenshot from another document.

On the invoice, the CLABE belongs to that invoice and doesn’t change between visits or partial payments. If you transfer less than shown, the payment is recorded when the rest arrives: open SPEI on the invoice again to see what’s missing. If you transfer more, the difference stays in your favor and isn’t charged. SPEI on the invoice is a new feature and may not be enabled on every account yet.

Each payment keeps a bank-customer reference to identify its funds. Reconciliation depends on confirmation; it is not guaranteed to be instant. If you already sent a transfer, check its status before trying a card. Do not assume a previous CLABE is unusable merely because you changed screens or methods. Contact the seller if you sent money to previous instructions.

Bank transfer with a reference (EUR, GBP and USD)

This feature is new and may not be enabled on every account yet. It is offered on the invoice link and on the quote’s payment page, when the document has a linked client. The instructions show the reference first: enter it in your transfer’s memo, because it identifies your payment. Then come the amount and the account details. The account belongs to you as the client and is reused for all your invoices with that business; each payment has its own reference. In EUR, type the account holder exactly as shown: if the name doesn’t match, the bank may hold the transfer. In USD you pay by ACH or domestic wire, never by international wire.

On the quote’s payment page, Email these to me sends you the instructions, and each part (deposit, balance or installment) is a payment with its own reference. If you transfer less than shown, what arrived is held for that payment and recorded once you complete the amount, to the same account and with the same reference; when you reopen the invoice you see what’s left, and if you try to pay by card, Cord asks you to finish the transfer. If you transfer more, the difference stays as a balance in your favor and isn’t charged: if you have another transfer payment waiting in that currency, it is applied to it.

Manual bank transfer

When a business offers its own bank details, the seller verifies receipt and records the payment in Cord. An uploaded receipt does not replace that verification. Refunding a manual transfer is handled with the business.

Switching between bank transfer and card

The protection improvement for switching methods is under validation before publication. It verifies the previous attempt, blocks replacement when money has been received or is in progress, and preserves the attempt across concurrent retries. It aims to reduce duplicate charges caused by switching or lost responses.

While a payment is unresolved, do not repeat the transfer or open another method just to try it. Refresh the link or contact the business. The improvement does not include automatic refunds of late transfers or automatic recovery of every uncertain attempt.

See the scope of the changes and method-specific fees. Sale currency is separate from your Cord subscription currency.

Availability of the September improvements is being verified. See scope and release status; contact support if a described action is not yet shown in your account.
