Custom domain

Give your quotes and invoices an address that carries your brand, such as quotes.yourcompany.com.

With a custom domain, the link your client receives no longer starts with cordhq.app and uses a subdomain of your company instead. Your main website does not change: Cord only uses the address you assign to it.

Requirements

  • Professional plan or higher. On Free and Starter the tab shows View Professional plan.
  • Settings permission in your role.
  • An unused subdomain of a domain you already own, for example quotes.yourcompany.com. You do not need to buy another domain. Root domains (yourcompany.com), wildcards, IP addresses, ports and paths are not accepted.
  • Access to the DNS panel where you manage your domain.
  • Being outside the test environment. In test mode the tab shows Unavailable in the test environment.

An organization has one custom domain at a time.

Connect your domain

Open Settings › Brand appearance › Custom domain.

  1. Choose your domain. In Subdomain enter only the hostname, without https://, paths or ports, and select Save domain.
  2. Configure DNS. Cord shows a table with Type, Name and Value. First comes an ownership TXT record, named _cord. followed by your subdomain. Add it in your DNS panel exactly as shown (use Copy name and Copy value).
  3. Select Verify connection. Once Cord confirms the TXT, the CNAME record that connects your subdomain appears. Add it as well.
  4. Select Verify connection again until the status reads Active. DNS changes can take time to propagate, and the HTTPS certificate also needs time.
Custom domain tab with cotizaciones.materialesdelvalle.mx saved and "Waiting for DNS": steps 01 Choose your domain, 02 Configure DNS with the TXT and CNAME records and their copy buttons, and 03 Verify the connection.

Keep the TXT record after your domain is active: Cord checks it again periodically. Only change the subdomain you are going to use, without touching your website or email records. If your DNS panel appends the domain to the name automatically, do not type it twice.

Connection statuses

Status What it means What to do
Setup pending The domain is saved, but the connection is not active. Add the DNS records and verify.
Waiting for DNS Cord has not confirmed your records yet. Check names and values; verify again later.
Preparing HTTPS DNS is correct and the certificate is being issued. Wait a few minutes and verify again.
Active Your address works and is secured with HTTPS. Nothing; you can open it with Open domain.
Needs attention The connection could not be completed. Read the message shown with the status; if it persists, contact support.

Status is checked when you open the tab or select Verify connection. The screen shows the Last verified date.

What changes once it is active

  • New links use your domain. The public link of every quote (/q/...) and every invoice (/i/...), including the one in the emails Cord sends on your behalf, is built with your subdomain.
  • The root of your subdomain shows a minimal page with your business branding.
  • Only your documents are served. Your domain cannot be used to enter the app, Settings or another organization’s documents: a link that does not belong to your account does not open there.
  • Your links are not indexed by search engines.

If the domain stops being available

  • If the connection fails or a verification expires, Cord tries to verify it again when someone opens a link. Until it is confirmed, new links are generated with cordhq.app so your sends keep working.
  • If you downgrade, links your clients already have with your domain redirect them to the same quote or invoice on cordhq.app. Nothing is deleted; you get your domain back when you return to an eligible plan.
  • If the tab says “Custom domains are being prepared”, the connection is not yet available for your account. Your links keep working on cordhq.app; you will be able to set it up there when it is ready.

Disconnect or change domain

To use a different domain, first disconnect the current one with Disconnect domain and confirm. Links using that address will no longer be available at it. Cord does not remove records from your DNS provider: delete them yourself if you no longer need them.

Common problems

“We could not find the ownership TXT.” Check that the name starts with _cord. and that the value is complete, without extra quotes.

“The DNS server did not respond.” Do not change your records because of this message: wait one minute and verify again.

“This address is already assigned or needs a review.” Contact support. Do not delete its configuration to try connecting it again.

“Enter a valid domain name.” Enter only the subdomain, without a protocol, paths or ports.

“You do not have permission to manage domains.” Ask your organization’s administrator to give you the Settings permission or to make the connection.
