Client portal

The secure link where your client reviews, discusses, approves and pays. Adjust what they see and how it looks.

The client portal is the page that opens when your client clicks a quote link. They need no account or password: the link is their access. From there they review the proposal, comment, approve or reject and, when applicable, pay online.

This page is about the link of each quote. To give a client a single link with all their invoices, their balance, and paying several at once, see Client portal: invoices and payments. The layout, top announcement, welcome message and Show Cord branding switch on this page also apply to that portal; the layout and announcement also apply to each invoice page.

Requirements

  • Settings permission to change the portal configuration.
  • All plans can customize layout, announcement, welcome and comments.
  • Starter or higher to remove Cord branding.
  • Professional or higher to serve the portal from your own domain. See Custom domain.

What your client sees

Element Detail
Header with your brand Your logo, colors and typography from Identity.
Top announcement A strip in your brand color, if you wrote an announcement.
Welcome Your welcome message, if you wrote one.
Line items Each item with quantity, price and amount, in the quote’s currency. If the negotiated price is lower than the list price, the list price appears struck through.
Partial approval While the quote is open, each line has an Include this line in your approval checkbox.
Line comments and conversation If comments are on: a button to comment on each line and a general chat with Counteroffer.
Approve or reject Approve quote records the signer’s name and technical evidence; Reject quote accepts an optional reason.
Online payment If you have an active payment method and the quote allows it. See Accept a payment.

Contact Shortcuts to reach you by WhatsApp, email or phone, based on the contact details you entered in Settings › General.
Activity notice “Whoever sent you this proposal can see when you open it and which sections you review.”
Cord branding The “Verified by Cord” seal, unless your plan allows removing it and you turned it off.
The client portal for COT-0148 on desktop: the top announcement in the brand color, the welcome message, the $196,469.20 MXN total, line items with partial-approval checkboxes (the mesh is unchecked, so the approval covers 4 of 5 lines for $154,523.60 MXN), and the conversation with a counteroffer and the Counteroffer button.

Your own visit does not count as a view. If you open the link while signed in to Cord, you see a Preview — this is what your client sees strip. Cord does not record that visit as client activity or trigger “viewed” alerts.

Customize the portal

  1. Open Settings › Brand appearance › Client portal.
  2. Under Layout, choose the header style (Essential, Soft or Contrast), Corners (Precise, Soft or Rounded) and Spacing (Comfortable or Compact).
  3. Under Messages, write the Top announcement (up to 200 characters; leave it empty to hide it) and the Welcome message (up to 280 characters).
  4. Under Interaction, turn Comments and counteroffers and Show Cord branding on or off.
  5. Check the preview on the right and save.

The preview shows a sample quote on Portal, Quote, PDF and Email, on Desktop or Mobile, and lets you compare Your draft against Saved. It generates no activity or messages.

Behavior and edge cases

  • Layout is shared. The header style, corners and spacing are also used in emails and commercial invoices. The quote PDF has its own design under Settings › Quotes › PDF document.
  • Turning comments off does not delete the conversation. The client stops seeing the per-line button, the chat and the counteroffer, but earlier messages are kept on your side.
  • Closed quote. Once approved or rejected, the partial-approval checkboxes and the option to comment on lines disappear.
  • Logo and colors are not edited here: they come from Identity. The Edit link on the Shared identity card takes you there.
  • The contact details your client sees come from Settings › General: if you leave WhatsApp, email or phone empty, that shortcut does not appear.
  • The language is the quote’s, not your interface’s: buttons, labels and the PDF appear in that client’s document language (or your organization’s), and your notice and welcome message are shown exactly as you wrote them. See Document language.

Free Always visible. The switch appears disabled and takes you to review your plan.
Starter, Professional, Scale and Developer You can hide it with Show Cord branding.

If you downgrade to Free, the branding shows on your links again even if you had turned it off; when you return to an eligible plan your choice is respected again.

Common problems

I saved an announcement and don’t see it. Open the link in a new window and confirm the text was not left empty. Remember the announcement appears on the quote link.

The client says they can’t comment. Check that Comments and counteroffers is on and that the quote is still open.

I can’t remove Cord branding. You need the Starter plan or higher; see Your subscription.
