France

Invoices that already carry what the e-invoicing reform requires, in Factur-X, and issuing through an approved platform as soon as it is activated.

What it is

In France Cord issues an invoice in French (with your client’s language alongside if they have another), with each line item’s TVA and the mentions the e-invoicing reform requires, downloadable as Factur-X (the PDF with the XML inside), which is also what the email carries by default.

The reform also requires invoices between businesses established in France to travel through an approved platform (PA) and sales to consumers and with other countries to be reported (e-reporting). Cord has built issuing through a platform: it issues, reports, and communicates your payments from the invoices you already issue. It is being activated.

In France
Default currency EUR
Tax TVA
Tax ID SIREN / N° TVA (SIREN, SIRET, and TVA validated)
Document Invoice with Factur-X; transmitted through an approved platform once activated
Authority Approved platform and the tax administration (DGFiP)
PDF language French; with a client in another language, French with the client’s alongside
Online payments Card, SEPA transfer with a reference, and SEPA Direct Debit (EUR) with Cord Payments

Issuing through an approved platform is built and being activated: meanwhile, Settings says Coming soon and your invoices already carry the reform’s mentions. European e-invoicing is also new. This feature is new and may not be enabled on your account yet. If you don’t see it, contact us.

Requirements

  • Plan: any to invoice with Factur-X (Free: 10 invoices per month). Starter or higher to register with the platform.
  • Your SIREN (or your TVA number, which contains it) in Settings › Tax profile.
  • Your reception platform: since September 1, 2026 every business established in France must be able to receive e-invoices, and Cord only issues.
  • Permissions: Settings for the tax profile and registration; Quotes to issue.

Set up your account

  1. In Settings › Tax profile, complete your legal name, your SIREN / N° TVA, address, and invoice prefix. If you apply the franchise, turn on VAT small-business exemption (art. 293 B du CGI).
  2. Under E-invoicing in France, choose your VAT regime, the nature of hand-typed line items (goods or services), and, if you have it, the option to pay VAT on debits.
  3. In the catalog, choose each product’s type: a product is a supply of goods; a service, subscription, or license is a supply of services.
  4. On each French business client, enter their SIREN (or SIRET).
  5. When issuing through the platform is active, click Register with the platform and follow the mandate step.
Settings › Tax profile, "E-invoicing in France" section of an account in France, as it looks while it is being activated, with the Coming soon status.

Taxes

Settings › Taxes of an account in France: the starter catalog Cord seeds, with 5 profiles, the default one marked and the note that rates apply per line.
  • TVA 20% (default), 10%, 5.5%, and 2.1%, per line item.
  • Exonéré de TVA for exempt transactions; on the exempt profile you can choose its e-invoice classification.
  • Franchise (art. 293 B du CGI): with the option on, your tax-free invoices carry the legal notice that explains it.

The reform’s mentions

Every French invoice from Cord carries them, whether or not the platform is active:

  • Transaction category: supply of goods, supply of services, or mixed, according to each product’s type or, for hand-typed line items, your profile’s default nature. Without it, the invoice is written as before the reform and cannot be transmitted.
  • Option for debits: if you have it, the invoice prints “Option pour le paiement de la taxe d’après les débits” (services only).
  • Client SIREN: a SIRET travels as the identifier and its SIREN as the legal registration.
  • Delivery address: in the invoice editor (France only), when goods are delivered somewhere other than the client’s address. It is not declared for a supply of services.
  • Business-to-business conditions: late payment penalties, the flat collection cost indemnity, and early payment discount conditions (art. L441-9 and L441-10 of the Commercial Code).

Issuing through an approved platform

What Cord does

Transaction What Cord does Payments
Between businesses established in France, client with SIREN Transmits the Factur-X through the platform If TVA is due on payment, reports each services payment as status 212 “Encaissée”
With a business established outside France Reports the invoice (e-reporting), one by one Reports its payments
To consumers Reports the summary of each closed day, by currency and category Reports what was collected that day

Only payments for services are reported, without the option for debits. A refund is reported as a negative amount with its reason.

Register

  1. In Settings › Tax profile › E-invoicing in France, check your SIREN, regime, email, and address: Cord creates your registration with that data.
  2. If you want, enter the legal representative (first name, last name, and position) and click Register with the platform.
  3. Click Verify identity and sign the mandate with Iopole, the approved platform Cord issues through, and complete the identity verification and the mandate there.
  4. Come back to Cord and click Refresh status. When registration is complete, the section says Registration complete: Cord issues and reports for you.

An invoice issued before registration is complete is not transmitted; the invoice detail says so.

E-reporting deadlines

VAT regime Transactions Payments
Standard regime, monthly By ten-day periods: 1–10, on the 20th; 11–20, on the last day of the month; 21–end, on the 10th of the next month Month, on the 10th of the next month
Standard regime, quarterly Month, on the 10th of the next month Month, on the 10th of the next month
Simplified Month, on the last day of the next month Same
Franchise Two months, on the last day of the next month Same

Cord sends each day as soon as it closes; Settings counts what is queued, unconfirmed, or past its deadline.

Invoice statuses

Detail of invoice FA-000142 from Atelier Lumière (France) to Maison Delorme, for €14,208.00 EUR: items, taxes and balance at the top; below, the invoice details and the E-invoicing platform panel with the status before the authority.

Each invoice’s E-invoicing platform panel says how the reform treats it (transmitted or reported), how its submission is going, and each status the platform reported, with its date and reason:

Code Status
200 Submitted to the platform
201 Issued by the platform
202 Received by the client’s platform
203 Made available to the client
204 Acknowledged by the client
205 / 206 Approved by the client (fully or partially)
207 Disputed by the client
208 / 209 Suspended: the client asks for supporting documents / Completed
210 Refused by the client
211 / 212 Payment sent / Payment received
213 Rejected by a platform
501 File not accepted by the platform

A rejected invoice (210 or 213) is not corrected: cancel it with a credit note (it is not transmitted: it is an accounting cancellation) and issue a new one with the right data. Nothing is corrected automatically.

Client and product data

  • Client: SIREN or SIRET (validated with its check digit), their VAT number if they are in another EU country, and their electronic address if they have one.
  • Product: its type (product, service, subscription, or license) decides the transaction category.
  • Invoice: the delivery address when applicable.

What Cord does not cover yet

  • Receiving invoices from your suppliers: you need your reception platform.
  • Correcting a report (e-reporting) already sent: not possible from Cord.
  • Voiding with the platform an invoice already transmitted: it is corrected with a transmitted credit note.
  • Invoices with withholdings, self-billing, multi-vendor, down payments, and the margin scheme: not issued through the platform.

Common problems

The invoice says the transaction category is missing. Choose the product’s type or the default nature of hand-typed line items in Settings › Tax profile.

My invoice says “Not transmitted by Cord”. It was issued before your registration with the platform was complete.

The platform rejected an invoice. Cancel it with a credit note and issue a new one with the right data.
