Chile

Electronic tax documents stamped, signed, and sent directly to the SII, with your folios and your certificate.

What it is

In Chile each invoice is an electronic tax document (DTE) that must reach the SII. Cord issues it directly, without an intermediary provider: it takes the folio from the file the SII authorized, applies the electronic seal, signs it with your certificate, sends it to the SII, checks the verdict, and prints the seal (PDF417) on the PDF, with the assignable copy.

Electronic invoicing with the SII is built and being activated: Cord turns it on country by country. Meanwhile, Settings › Tax profile says Coming soon and your invoices are issued as commercial invoices without tax validity. This feature is new and may not be enabled on your account yet. If you don’t see it, contact us.

Requirements

  • Plan: Starter or higher to issue DTE. On Free, commercial invoice (10 per month).
  • Be authorized as an electronic issuer before the SII (with a market system), with the resolution it assigns you.
  • The digital certificate of the person authorized before the SII to sign your documents (.pfx/.p12), issued by an accredited certification authority. You pay its cost directly to them.
  • The folios (CAF) you download from the SII per document type.
  • Permissions: Settings for the tax profile, folios, and certificate; Quotes to issue; Collections for credit notes.

Set up your account

  1. In Settings › Tax profile, complete your legal name and your RUT under Invoice identity.
  2. Under Issuer details, enter your line of business (giro) as registered, your economic activity codes (up to 4), your SII office, your comuna, city, and branch if you have one, and your resolution’s number and date (0 in certification).
  3. Under Folios (CAF), upload each type’s folio file exactly as downloaded from the SII. Cord checks that it belongs to your RUT and to a type it issues.
  4. Under Digital certificate, upload the .pfx/.p12, its password, and the certificate holder’s RUT if Cord cannot read it from the certificate.
  5. On each Chilean client, enter their giro and comuna: the SII requires them on every invoice.
Settings › Tax profile, "Electronic invoicing with the SII" section of an account in Chile, with the business details and the certificate uploaded.

Document types

Type When
Electronic invoice (33) Sale with IVA.
Non-taxable or exempt invoice (34) When every line item is exempt.
Credit note (61) Voids (CodRef 1) or corrects amounts (CodRef 3) of an accepted document.
Debit note (56) Charges an additional amount on an accepted document (interest, price difference) or fully voids a credit note.

The debit note is created from the SII panel of an accepted document (Issue a debit note): it starts as a draft and is issued like any invoice. Its folios come from a CAF 56.

Taxes and IVA per document

Settings › Taxes of an account in Chile: the starter catalog Cord seeds, with 3 profiles, the default one marked and the note that rates apply per line.
  • IVA 19% (default) and Exento. IVA is calculated once per document, on the total net amount, as the SII format requires: Cord calculates it that way throughout the app, not only in the DTE, so what your client saw is what is declared.
  • Fees withholding 15.25% (2026): applied by whoever pays the fees receipt (boleta de honorarios), it starts as non-default and is not issued on a DTE: Cord rejects an invoice with withholdings.
  • Amounts are in whole pesos.

Folios (CAF)

  • Each document uses one folio from a file the SII authorizes. A used folio is never reused, even if the document is rejected.
  • Invoice, debit note, and credit note folios expire six months after their authorization.
  • Settings shows how many are left of each type and warns “request more from the SII” when few are left: 20, or 10% of the range if greater.
  • A folio file none of whose folios has been used can be removed and uploaded again.

Status before the SII

Detail of invoice FE-1043 from Cordillera Servicios (Chile) to Comercial Los Andes, for $2,130,100 CLP: items, taxes and balance at the top; below, the invoice details and the SII panel with the status before the authority.
Status What it means
Accepted by the SII With its folio and submission number; if there were objections, they are listed.
Being validated by the SII The SII validates each submission after receiving it; Cord checks the verdict and completes the invoice by itself.
Waiting for the SII to confirm Cord checks the status before doing anything.
The SII rejected the document With the reason. The folio is used; the retry takes another one.

Once the document is accepted, the panel offers the DTE XML (inside a submission addressed to your client’s RUT) and the assignable copy (cedible) of invoices 33 and 34, with the Law 19,983 receipt acknowledgment. The PDF prints the box with RUT, type, and folio, the SII office, and the PDF417 seal with the verification legend.

Void or correct

An accepted DTE is not voided with the SII: it is voided or corrected with a credit note that references it (CodRef 1 if it voids the total, 3 if it corrects amounts). A credit note is voided with a debit note.

Certification with the SII

If you are not an electronic issuer yet, Cord guides you through certification from Settings › Tax profile › Certification with the SII, while your account is in the certification environment:

  1. Test set: paste or open the file the SII assigned you. Cord builds each case, takes certification folios, signs them, and sends them in a single submission. You check the verdict by type; with objections or rejections, the retry uses new folios.
  2. Books: when the SII accepts the set, Cord also sends the sales book and the purchase book your set requires (in the purchase book you add each supplier’s RUT).
  3. Simulation: issue representative documents from Invoices.
  4. Exchange: receive the documents the SII sends you and answer them (see below).
  5. Printed samples: download each case’s PDF, with its assignable copy, and upload them on the SII site.
  6. Compliance declaration: your legal representative signs it on the SII site.

The set cannot include a dispatch guide (52) or its book, export documents, or an issued purchase invoice: Cord tells you when you load the file, with its attention number.

Exchange with acknowledgments

Cord receives the DTE your suppliers send you (in your exchange mailbox or by uploading the XML) and answers them, signed with your certificate:

  • Receipt acknowledgment of the submission and of each document when it arrives.
  • Result: accepted, accepted with discrepancies, or rejected with its reason.
  • Goods or services receipt (Law 19,983) for what was received as agreed.
  • The same decision is registered with the SII (acceptance or claim) within eight calendar days.

A decision cannot be changed after it is registered.

Get paid online

What Cord does not cover yet

  • Electronic receipt (boleta, 39/41): a client without a RUT is rejected before taking a folio.
  • Dispatch guide (52), export invoice (110–112), and fees receipt (boleta de honorarios).
  • Withholdings on the DTE.
  • Sales and purchase books outside certification: since 2017 the SII’s Purchase and Sales Register replaces them.

Common problems

Settings says Coming soon. Electronic invoicing with the SII is being activated. Your invoices come out as commercial invoices.

The invoice is not issued because the client’s giro or comuna is missing. Complete them on their profile.

Settings says “request more from the SII”. Few folios of that type are left: request a new CAF from the SII and upload it.

The document stayed in validation. The SII validates after receiving; Cord checks and completes it by itself.
