Spain
Invoices with IVA, IRPF, IGIC, or IPSI per line item. With Verifactu active, they are chained, registered with the AEAT and downloadable as Facturae.
What it is
In Spain Cord issues with the invoicing system the law requires (Verifactu, RD 1007/2023): with Starter or higher and your electronic certificate uploaded, each invoice generates a record chained to your business’s previous one, which is sent to the Tax Agency, and its PDF carries the AEAT verification QR code. Without a certificate, or on the Free plan, Cord issues pro formas with the PRO series and registers nothing with the AEAT.
Each invoice issued with Verifactu is also downloadable as Facturae 3.2.2 (with IRPF, IGIC, or IPSI) and as Factur-X, XRechnung, and Peppol; a pro forma has no electronic version. Cord has also built e-invoicing between businesses through the AEAT public solution, which will be activated when the AEAT publishes its service.
| In Spain | |

Verifactu is in beta: with your certificate uploaded, Cord registers each invoice with the AEAT, and the invoice detail shows how its submission is going. E-invoicing between businesses is still coming soon. If something looks off, contact us.
Requirements
- Plan: Starter or higher for Verifactu. On Free you issue pro formas (10 per month).
- A valid NIF for your business in Settings › Tax profile.
- A qualified electronic certificate (
.p12or.pfx) for your business or its representative, with its password. You get it from a certification service provider (for example, the FNMT); its cost, if any, you pay directly to them. - Permissions: Settings for the tax profile and the certificate; Quotes to issue and correct records; Collections to void.
Set up your account
- In Settings › Tax profile, complete your legal name, NIF, address, city, province, postal code, and invoice prefix. If your business is in the Canary Islands, Ceuta, or Melilla, write the province (or its code: 35, 38, 51, or 52): it decides which tax is seeded.
- Review the catalog in Settings › Taxes: IVA 21, 10, and 4%, exemptions with their reason, and IRPF withholdings.
- In the Verifactu section, upload your electronic certificate with its password. Cord validates it, reads its expiration, and stores it encrypted.
- Under European e-invoicing, complete your billing contact and, if you want, turn on Sign the Facturae with my electronic certificate.
Taxes
- IVA at 21, 10, and 4%, per line item.
- Exemptions with a reason: Exportación (art. 21, E2), Entrega intracomunitaria (art. 25, E5), Exenta art. 20 (E1), and Inversión del sujeto pasivo (S2). The line item freezes the reason when you choose it, Verifactu declares it, and the PDF cites the legal provision. Plain Exento lets Cord derive the reason from the client: not subject outside Spain or in an intra-community transaction with an EU VAT number, exempt inside.
- IRPF withholding at 15% or 7% (new self-employed): it is subtracted from what you collect. It is not a tax you pass on to your client.
- Canary Islands: the catalog starts with IGIC at 7, 3, and 0%. Ceuta and Melilla: only Exento, because each city sets its IPSI rates; add them by hand.
Series per issuer and fiscal year
A Spanish invoice is identified by issuer’s NIF + number, so numbering belongs to the business, not to the Cord account:
- The series carries the fiscal year attached to the prefix and numbering starts over every year. With the prefix
F, the first invoice of 2026 isF2026-000001. - If another Cord organization has your same NIF, it cannot use your same series: when you save your tax details Cord asks you to choose another one (for example
F2) so the two never repeat a number.
Verifactu
What it does once activated
- Each invoice generates a registration record with a hash that chains it to your business’s previous invoice. The chain is never edited: not even Cord can modify a record once generated.
- The PDF carries the AEAT verification QR code at the top, with the legend “Factura verificable en la sede electrónica de la AEAT” below it. With IRPF, “Importe total factura” (the QR’s amount) and “Total a pagar” are shown separately.
- Issuing does not wait for the AEAT: the record is generated when you issue and the submission runs afterwards, in the background. The invoice detail says how it is going.
- A client without a tax ID is registered as a simplified invoice (no recipient).
- An invoice in another currency is converted with the document’s exchange rate if your accounting currency is EUR.
Status before the AEAT
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Waiting to be sent to the AEAT | The record exists and will go out in the next submission. |
| Registered with the AEAT | The AEAT accepted it. |
| Registered with errors | The AEAT accepted it with warnings: it is worth correcting. |
| Rejected by the AEAT | The AEAT did not accept it, with its code and reason. |
| Could not be sent to the AEAT | The record does not pass the AEAT schema and was set aside without being sent. |
Correct and void
- Correct and resend: an invoice that was rejected, set aside, or registered with errors is corrected from its detail with a correction record. You can set the exemption reason of 0% line items; amounts never change. Settings › Tax profile lists the invoices to correct.
- Void: generates a chained cancellation record. If the invoice never reached the AEAT, it is voided “without a previous record”.
- Credit note: a corrective invoice by differences (R1, or R5 if the original was simplified) that cites the corrected invoice.
Responsible declaration
The responsible declaration of the invoicing system is Cord’s, as the software producer (Orden HAC/1177/2024, art. 15): you do not sign it. With Verifactu active, Settings › Tax profile links to it (Responsible declaration of the invoicing system) so you can read and print it.
What you see in Settings
When you upload your certificate, Cord confirms “Certificate uploaded. Invoices now chain into the Verifactu registry.” From then on the section says Verifactu active, with Certificate valid until its expiry date and, if any invoice needs it, the Invoices to correct block.
Facturae, IRPF, IGIC, and IPSI
Each invoice in euros issued with Verifactu is downloadable as Facturae 3.2.2 from its detail and from its public link, with the same amounts as the PDF (a pro forma has no electronic version):
- IRPF as a withholding (the base and total do not change);
- IVA, IGIC, or IPSI with its rate, and exempt or non-subject transactions with their reason;
- reverse charge with its legal mention;
- the credit note as a corrective invoice by differences.
Signed with your certificate (XAdES) if you turn signing on; unsigned otherwise. Cord does not submit it to FACe and does not capture the DIR3 codes FACe requires yet. Factur-X, XRechnung, and Peppol do not support withholdings: an invoice with IRPF can only be downloaded as Facturae. Details in European e-invoicing.
E-invoicing between businesses (AEAT)
The law requires issuing and receiving e-invoices between businesses and professionals (Ley 18/2022 and RD 238/2026). Cord will send each invoice to a client established in Spain through the free AEAT public solution and report when you collected it.
- Status: Coming soon. The AEAT has not published its service’s technical specification yet. When it does, Cord will activate it. All you need is your certificate uploaded (the same one as Verifactu).
- Obligation dates: October 6, 2027 for businesses invoicing more than 8 million euros a year; October 6, 2028 for everyone else; October 6, 2029 for self-employed people up to 8 million to report payment of the invoices they receive.
- Meanwhile, each invoice’s detail says whether it already has the data the AEAT requires or what is missing (for example, the client’s NIF or full address).
- Does not apply to foreign clients, and invoices with IRPF will be sent once the AEAT publishes how they are declared: until then, download them as Facturae. The Basque Country and Navarre depend on their regional tax authorities.
Client and product data
- Client: validated NIF and full address (municipality, postal code, and province) for e-invoicing between businesses; their EU VAT number if they are in another EU country (for reverse charge); their electronic address and buyer reference if they ask for them for the e-invoice.
- Line item: its rate and, at 0%, its exemption reason.
Get paid online
- Card with Cord Payments.
Bizum in EUR, which you turn on in Settings › Payments › Payment methods: your customer pays from their bank’s app with their phone, up to €5,000 per payment, on the invoice link, the quote’s payment page, and the portal. It confirms right away and isn’t saved for automatic payments. Before turning it on, the processor reviews your account: Bizum doesn’t accept some lines of business, such as jewelry or gambling, and may ask a sole proprietor for their DNI or NIE. This feature is new: see Get paid with Bizum.
SEPA transfer with a reference in EUR, which you turn on with Automatic SEPA transfer in Settings › Payments › Payment methods: your client transfers to an IBAN of their own (Spanish businesses get a French IBAN, because the processor doesn’t issue Spanish ones; the account holder is typed exactly as shown), with a reference per payment, and Cord reconciles it on its own. It’s offered on the invoice link and the quote’s payment page if the document has a linked client. This feature is new: see Bank transfer with a reference.
SEPA Direct Debit in EUR, which you turn on in Settings › Payments › Payment methods: each debit takes up to six business days to confirm and the account holder can return it for eight weeks. This feature is new.
- Your payouts arrive at your IBAN, validated with its check digits. See Payouts.

What Cord does not cover yet
- Verifactu with IGIC, IPSI, or equivalence surcharge: today it registers invoices with IVA; an invoice from the Canary Islands or Ceuta and Melilla cannot be registered.
- FACe and the public administration’s DIR3 codes.
- E-invoicing between businesses until the AEAT publishes its service, and with IRPF until it publishes how it is declared.
Common problems
I uploaded my certificate and still issue pro formas. Check your plan (Starter or higher), that the section says Verifactu active, and that VERI*FACTU, not Pro forma, is selected in Document type.
Cord asks me for another series when saving my tax details. Another organization with your same NIF already uses that series. Choose a different one so numbers are not repeated.
My Canary Islands invoice shows IGIC and cannot be registered. Verifactu in Cord registers invoices with IVA today. Download it as Facturae.
The AEAT rejected an invoice. Open it and click Correct and resend: Cord generates the correction.
