An invoice that knows how much you are still owed.

Cord issues your invoices under your own numbering and brand, sends them with a link where your client pays in full or in part, and tracks the balance down to zero. Each one carries your sales tax per line and, where an authority receives each invoice, the e-invoice it requires once it is live for your account.

Invoices from Free (10 a month). E-invoices filed with a tax authority, where Cord issues them, from Starter, with 30 a month. Recurring invoices from Professional.

FROM DRAFT TO NUMBER

The invoice number is assigned when you issue, not when you type.

In Invoices you pick the client, add items from your catalog or as free lines, and save a draft that uses up no number: if you throw it away, your numbering has no gaps. With Issue and send, Cord assigns the next number in your series, issues the document and emails your client the PDF as an attachment plus the invoice's link. If issuing fails, the invoice stays a draft and tells you what to fix.

  • Drafts that use up no number
  • Your own numbering series, set in Settings

THE INVOICE KNOWS WHERE IT STANDS

Issued, sent, viewed, paid: you see it without asking anyone.

Every invoice shows its progress and its activity: when it went out, when your client opened it (only your client, not you checking the link) and every reminder and payment. Your client pays from their link; wires made outside the link, cash or checks you record yourself, and they can't exceed the balance. While it stays open, Cord reminds your client of the due date before and after it, and never sends the same reminder twice.

  • Invoice progress: issued, sent, viewed and paid
  • Reminders before and after the due date
  • Payments recorded by hand against the same balance

FOR FINANCE TEAMS

From payment to the books without typing it twice.

When your client pays online, Cord applies the payment to its invoice and alerts your team. Your accountant gets the invoice in Xero as soon as you issue it.

Receivables and AI collections have their own page. See AI collections

  1. 01Payment

The payment lands on its invoice

When your client pays from the link, the payment lowers that invoice’s balance with no one keying it in.

  2. 02Alert

It is paid and your team knows

Once settled it moves to Paid, your systems get invoice.paid and a workflow posts it to your Slack channel.

  3. 03Books

Your accountant has it in Xero

A draft lands as soon as you issue it, referenced by its number. Payment sync and QuickBooks Online, coming soon.

INTEGRATIONS

Issue once and every app does its part.

Only the ones that work with your invoices are here: the draft for your accountant, the row with its balance, the email with the PDF or the alert when it is paid. WhatsApp and Slack connect through Cord Workflows.

CLIENT PORTALComing soon

One link where your client pays all their invoices at once.

Each client gets their own portal with their balance, their invoices and the option to pay several in a single charge or keep automatic payments on. It is built and we are switching it on.

  • Their balance, by currencyWhat they owe in each currency and how much is already overdue, without asking you for a statement.
  • Several invoices, one paymentThey pick the ones they want in the same currency and pay them together; each one lowers its own balance.
  • Their PDFs, always at handEvery open or paid invoice with its PDF, no inbox search needed.
  • Automatic paymentsThey authorize a method and each invoice is charged on its due date. Whatever they already owed before authorizing is never charged by surprise.

When a charge fails, the rule is written down.

No blind retries: every decline has its answer, and your client gets an email with the date of the next attempt or what they need to do.

Retries

Each decline waits for its best date, up to 4 attempts per charge.

  • Insufficient funds116of the month

Right after the most common paydays; if neither is within the week, in 3 days.

  • Another bank decline+2+4+7days

Each wait is longer: 2 days after the first decline, then 4, then 7.

  • Technical failure at the bank+1day

If their bank did not respond or processing failed, it retries the next day.

Stops

Insisting would not collect it: you get a task with the reason.

  • Stolen or blocked cardMethod removed

Also if lost or expired: it stops and asks your client to add another one.

  • Their bank requires authenticationMethod kept

It needs your client present: they are asked to confirm it in their portal.

  • After 4 failed attemptsMethod kept

It stops trying that charge and asks your client to pay it from their portal.

Bank direct debitComing soon

A charge to a bank account with the mandate your client signs in their portal or on the invoice. Retried only for insufficient funds.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Cord Invoicing: the questions we hear most.

Yes, on every plan. You apply a discount to the document, as a percentage or a fixed amount, or a coupon you create in Settings, with validity dates and usage limits overall or per client. The discount applies before tax and is spread across the line items, so the PDF and the tax document match what your client pays.

It depends on the country, and Cord tells you where each one stands. No authority receives each invoice in the United States: Cord's invoice carries your sales tax per line, on every plan. Where each invoice must be filed with the tax authority, Cord switches that channel on country by country, from Starter; until it is live for your account, a standard invoice goes out, not filed with the authority.

Yes, in beta and from the Starter plan: from your client's address it calculates the rate for their state, county, city and districts, and records every sale in the states where you collect for your filing, which Cord doesn't file for you. Starter includes 10 sales with automatic calculation a month, Professional 25, Scale 60 and Developer 150; when you reach the limit, you upgrade or enter the rate by hand. An exempt client is charged no tax and their certificate number appears on the invoice.

No: an issued invoice keeps its number and its amounts. With no payments applied, you void it and issue a new one; with payments, Cord takes you to a credit note, full or partial, that can never add up to more than the original invoice.

An email in your business's name with the PDF attached and a button to the invoice's page. There they see the items, the taxes by rate, the payments already received and the balance; they can pay it in full or choose Pay another amount with the payment methods you have turned on, and download the PDF. The same page tells them you can see when they opened it and whether it was paid.

By default, seven days and one day before the due date, and 3, 7, 14 and 30 days after it, on every plan; you choose the schedule in Settings › Reminders, and you can turn them off there too. Each reminder goes out only once, and they stop as soon as the invoice is paid, voided or marked uncollectible. For a different message or channel, build it with Cord Workflows; for someone to chase overdue accounts one by one, that's AI collections.

On Free, 10 invoices a month. From Starter, standard invoices have no cap and e-invoices filed with a tax authority are included: 30 a month on Starter, 200 on Professional and 500 on Scale; anything beyond that is billed as overage. Viewing and collecting the invoices you already issued is never blocked, whether you run out of quota or downgrade.
