Google Sheets
Every quote and every invoice as a row in your Google sheet, kept current on its own.
How it works
Cord creates a spreadsheet in your Google Drive and writes your quotes and invoices into it: one row per document, updated on its own when the document changes status. It is there for the usual work —totaling the month, filtering by client, building a chart— without exporting anything by hand.
Cord can only open the sheet it creates. It asks for drive.file, the narrowest permission Google offers: it sees nothing else in your Drive.
Requirements
| Where | What you need |
|---|---|
| Cord | The Settings permission. Any plan. |
| Google Sheets | A Google account (Gmail or Google Workspace) with Google Drive. Cord creates the file in that account. |
| Another spreadsheet | You can have Microsoft Excel connected at the same time; each one keeps its own file. |
Connect
- Go to Settings › Integrations › Google Sheets. You need the Settings permission.
- Click Connect Google Sheets and authorize with your Google account.
- When you come back, Cord creates the file in your Drive (named after your business and the year) and starts filling it with what you already had.
- Click Open the sheet to see it. The first fill takes a moment if you have a lot of history.
You can have Google Sheets and Excel connected at the same time; each keeps its own file.
What the sheet contains
Two tabs, Quotes and Invoices, with one row per document:
| Tab | Columns |
|---|---|
| Quotes | Number, client, status, date, valid until, currency, subtotal, discount, taxes, total, collected and public link. |
| Invoices | Number, client, status, tax status, date, due date, currency, total, paid, balance and public link. |
- Amounts are numbers, not text. You can sum, average and chart them without cleaning anything.
- Currency has its own column. If you sell in two currencies, the sheet says so instead of hiding it inside the number, so you never add pesos to dollars.
- Dates use your account’s time zone, in
YYYY-MM-DDformat, which sorts correctly and both apps recognize as a date. - The header row arrives frozen and filtered, with columns sized to their content.
How it stays current
When a quote is sent, resent, approved, rejected, expires, receives a partial payment or is paid —and when an invoice is issued, sent, paid, becomes overdue, is voided or is marked uncollectible— Cord looks for its number in column A and replaces that row. If it is not there, it adds it at the end. Drafts are not written.
That is why you can sort, filter and add your own columns to the right: Cord matches by number, not by row position. The only thing you should not touch is column A.
Update now rewrites your latest 500 documents in each tab. Use it right after connecting or whenever you are unsure.
What flows and in which direction
Google Sheets is an outbound-only integration: Cord writes to the spreadsheet in your Google Drive and reads nothing back.
| Direction | What flows | When |
|---|---|---|
| From Cord to the spreadsheet | One row per quote and one per invoice, with the columns above. | When you connect (initial fill), when the document changes status and when you click Update now. |
| From the spreadsheet to Cord | Nothing. Editing a cell, deleting a row or adding columns changes nothing in Cord. | — |
If you fix a row by hand, Cord writes it again the next time that document changes. Your columns to the right of Cord’s are not touched.
Limits
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Files per connection | One, which Cord creates when you connect |
| Initial fill and Update now | The latest 500 documents in each tab |
| Update now | Up to 3 times every 5 minutes |
| Connections per organization | One per provider |
| Documents included | Quotes from sent onward and issued invoices; drafts are not |
Disconnect
With Disconnect on the card. The file stays in your account with what it had; it simply stops updating. If you connect again, Cord creates a new file.
Common issues
| Message or symptom | What to do |
|---|---|
| “The connection to your sheet stopped working” | Access was revoked or the account password changed. Reconnect from the card. |
| You deleted the file | Disconnect and connect again; Cord creates and fills a new one. |
| You deleted the first row | No problem: Cord writes it again on the next update. |
| A row got duplicated | Check that nobody edited column A; Cord matches by number. |
